Easy, refreshing, and delicious twists on the classic beverage.
Summertime sipping. There is nothing quite as quintessentially “summer” as drinking an ice cold lemonade. Now, old-fashioned lemonade is delicious, but I’ve got a few fun twists for you.
A perfect lemonade for summer begins and ends with watermelon! It’s a seasonal fruit best enjoyed in the hot summer months. The recipe is quick and easy, and will surely make you say “ahhh.”
To make, start by mixing half a pitcher of your favorite lemonade. Let stand. Chop up half a medium sized watermelon. Blend until smooth, and strain. Add the watermelon juice to the lemonade, stir in a dash of mint, and enjoy! And if mint really does it for you, blend mint with the watermelon.
Another great take on the classic lemonade is homemade frozen lemonade. Mix one lemon and 1 1/2 cups of superfine sugar in a bowl, and mash with a spoon. Add 2 1/2 cups cold water and 1 1/4 cups lemon juice; let stand for five minutes, and stir. Puree half of the mixture and four cups of ice into a blender. Garnish with a lemon wedge, and head to the beach.
To make a strawberry basil lemonade, grab a saucepan. Bring one cup water to a boil. Add in strawberries, and stir until softened. Turn off the heat, toss in basil leaves, and let cool. Strain, and add the liquid to your lemonade. Garnish with basil leaves, and you’re summertime ready!
