It’s National Fried Chicken Day, and we are sharing the wealth with a beloved Southern recipe. A global dish, fried chicken can be found in cuisines all around the world. From all-American styles, to international versions derived from Indian and Korean-inspired flavors, fried chicken is as familiar as it is delectable.

In America, fried chicken has become a staple, especially in the Southern regions. Many Southerners prepare fried chicken at least once a week, especially on Sundays when the whole family is together. This classic Southern recipe is super simple and fail-proof. Whether you are cooking for a family of two or twenty-two, the secret to a great fried chicken is all about the love.

Ingredients:

8-10 6 ounce boneless skinless chicken breasts

2 1/4 cups flour

1 cup breadcrumbs

2 tablespoons salt

2 tablespoons pepper

1 teaspoon paprika

1 cup vegetable oil

Start by dicing chicken cutlets into pieces, and then season with salt, pepper, and paprika. Roll in flour and pat dry. Next, add oil to a large skillet and heat to approximately 365 degrees. Drop your chicken in, cover, and fry for 15 minutes until golden brown. If you don’t have a fryer, add breadcrumbs into the flour mixture and bake at 400 degrees for 45 minutes. Baking with breadcrumbs emulates a fried chicken-like texture. Garnish with greens, and serve.

If you’re feeling bold, try this hot and spicy fried chicken recipe. Follow the above instructions to make the chicken. Before you prepare the chicken, create this mouth-watering, tangy and spicy rub. You’ll need 2 tablespoons of hot sauce, 3 tablespoons melted butter, 1 tablespoon ground red pepper, 1 teaspoon honey, 2 teaspoons sugar, 2 tablespoons brown sugar, 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika, 1 chili pepper, and 3/4 cup vegetable oil. Whisk the seasonings together in a mixing bowl. Cover and refrigerate for 3 hours. When chicken is complete, mix with the rub. Be ready for the heat!
