Black & Tan. I’m Anthony Dias Blue with the Blue Lifestyle Minute sponsored by CUISINART. Half dark beer and half-light, the Black & Tan becomes a popular order around St. Patrick’s Day. And while it is a great drink, it’s important to keep in mind that the name represents more than just that. Black & Tan refers to the Royal Irish Constabulary Reserve Force, an English police-force sent to Ireland in the 1920’s to maintain order as Irish nationalists were agitating for separation from Great Britain. Best to avoid using the term “Black & Tan” if you are in Ireland itself, or an authentic Irish pub. Don’t let it keep you from enjoying the drink itself though, just call it a “half and half” if you aren’t sure. I’m Anthony Dias Blue sponsored by CUISINART – fine small appliances and cookware.
