Jefferson’s Wine. I’m Anthony Dias Blue with the Blue Lifestyle Minute sponsored by CUISINART. President’s Day is a holiday that comes and goes with little notice outside of school. Our founding fathers have accumulated a stuffy reputation, but, in fact, it was Thomas Jefferson who jumpstarted this nation’s viticulture. Following a historic visit to Revolutionary France, Jefferson brought back a passion and knowledge of French wine (as well as many, many cases), and began cultivating his own vines on his Virginia Monticello estate. Jefferson tried to grow the same European varietals he had seen in France, but also grew native grape varieties such as Scuppernong, aka Muscadine. So, pour a glass of your favorite domestic wine, knowing the spirit of Jefferson lives on this Presidents Day. I’m Anthony Dias Blue sponsored by CUISINART – fine small appliances and cookware.
